En 1993,Don Shay revient sur le tournage de RD3T en compagnie de Steven dans une longue interview parue dans le numéro 53 de l'édition américaine de Cinéfex.il y évoque le choc qu'a été pour lui le 2001 de Kubrick et qu'il recherchait à provoquer le même impact visuel en engageant notamment Douglas Trumbull pour les effets spéciaux.A noter qu'une traduction existe dans le numéro 3 seconde série de l'édition française de Cinéfex.
